8 Jan – Jackie Chan must be feeling extremely thankful to the Malaysian moviegoers as his action blockbuster "CZ12" dominated the local box office chart at the top spot (3 – 6 January) for the third consecutive week. On the other hand, the runner-up place belongs to Azhari Zain's new local horror drama "Minyak Dagu", which tells the story of a controlling and abusive salesman Azman, played by Fezrul Khan, who goes down the path not taken when he seeks a Malay shaman's help to get his ex-fiancée Emelda back into his life, surprisingly surpassing Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", which fell to the fourth place. Meanwhile, new fellow release, "The Last Tycoon", a Shanghai-themed film directed by Wong Jing, rounded up the top three. The film stars Hong Kong Film Award winner Chow Yun-fat, who plays Cheng, who is a huge mob figure in the Shanghai underworld during the 1930s, but soon finds his power threatened when the Japanese army invades.
In the United States, John Luessenhop's slasher film "Texas Chainsaw 3D" had not only made its debut, but it managed to top the box office chart with an impressive USD 21 million, leading Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" to stay down at second place while "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" fell to third spot with USD 17 million. "Texas Chainsaw 3D" sees a young lady who has an unexpected horrifying adventure in Texas as she encounters a chainsaw-wielding maniac Leatherface while collecting on an inheritance. In Singapore, "Les Miserables" ascended to first place, which was previously held by "CZ12", while new title and Singaporean comedy "Taxi! Taxi!" gained the second spot in its debut week. Last but not least, is the aforementioned "CZ12" in number three. New movies that opened over the week in Malaysia are "End Of Watch", "Parental Guidance", "Forks Over Knives", "Sattam Oru Iruttarai", "Table No.21", "Fairy Tail Movie: Priestess Of The Phoenix", "Naruto Movie: Road To Ninja" and "Nanbargal Kavanathirku". New movies that opened over the week in Singapore are "Parental Guidance", "The Last Tycoon", "Killing Them Softly", "Code Name: Geronimo (2D)" and "Table No.21".
