7 May – Regarded as Indian superstar Rajinikanth's Magnum Opus, Tamil movie "Kochadaiiyaan" will see its worldwide release in cinemas this 9 May 2014.

Directed by the superstar's daughter, Soundarya R. Ashwin as her directorial debut, the film stars the 63-year-old Rajinikanth, alongside 28-year-old Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone.

Produced with a colossal budget of RS 125-crore (USD 25 million), the film utilises a newly introduced technology known as; motion capture photo-realistic 3D animation which can be closely related to the filmmaking technique used in James Cameron's Hollywood blockbuster "Avatar".

In India, the film will be available in several dubbed languages, including Telugu, Hindi and Bhojpuri. It is also dubbed in Spanish and Japanese for moviegoers at the respective regions that speak the language.

The music for the film is composed by Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman.

Expectations for "Kochadaiiyaan" are set high since this is the superstar's first film after a long gap of showbiz absence due to his illness.

The superstar's last outing "Endhiran" (Robot) was released in 2010 and it was one of the highest-grossing Indian films. In Malaysia, "Endhiran" grossed approximately RM1.5 million in its first weekend from 80 screens and RM8.7 million after two weeks, thus propelling it as the all-time top five highest grossing Tamil film in Malaysia.

"I decided to start with Twitter because I felt that the platform is abuzz with all the news and the trends that happen across the globe and I'm told that this is where all the best Rajini one-liners are," said the 63-year-old who already has over 200k followers to date.

Distributed locally by Lotus Five Star, the movie is slated for 2D release at all major cinemas this 9 May 2014.

The movie is distributed in Singapore by Eros International and will also be available in 2D this 9 May 2014.
