29 Sep – Sanif Olek's feature debut film, "Sayang Disayang' has been chosen by Singapore to participate in next year's Best Foreign Language Film category at the prestigious Academy Awards. "Sayang Disayang" is a Malay language family drama film about a live-in nurse and a lonely and bitter elderly man she looks after. The film which was selected by the Singapore Film Commission, is the first Malay film submitted by Singapore for this award, reports The New Paper. Previously, Singaporean Chinese film, "Ilo Ilo" which was the debut feature film of director Anthony Chen, was selected as the Singaporean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, but unfortunately it was not nominated. According to Variety, "Sayang Disayang" was made on a budget of SGD400,000 and it premiered as the closing film of the Southeast Asian Film Festival in Singapore back in May this year. "Sayang Disayang" stars Malaysian cinema legend, Rahim Razali and Singaporean director and actress, Aidli 'Alin' Mosbit.
