11 Nov – Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" is first at the Malaysia and Singapore weekend box office but lands at second place in the U.S., as "Big Hero 6" debuts first for the North American audience for 6 to 9 November 2014. The highly anticipated Disney animated superhero film, "Big Hero 6" opened up grossing over USD56.2 million beating the newly released "Interstellar" which collected USD8.7 million less, for a USD47.5 million collection in North America. In the meantime, the Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike starrer, "Gone Girl" moved up a spot from fourth to third place, collecting a total of USD6.2 million over the weekend. Although the film lost to "Big Hero 6" in the U.S., "Interstellar" debuts on top for Malaysia's weekend box office collection. This could be so as "Big Hero 6" will only be released on 13 November 2014 in Malaysia and Singapore.
Meanwhile, last week's champion, "Kung Fu Jungle" was pushed to second place to make way for Keanu Reeves' new film "John Wick", which made its debut at third place. Similarly in Singapore, "Interstellar" and "Kung Fu Jungle" dominated the first and second spot respectively, leaving the third spot to the Mexican animated film, "The Book of Life" who moved from fifth place the week before to third place last week. Also opening in Malaysia last week; "The Shaukeens", "Jai Hind 2", "Oru Oorla Rendu Raja", "The Ultimate Gift", "Paradise in Service", "Kelibat", "Exists", "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" and "Bugs". Other new movies that opened in Singapore last week; "Jai Hind 2", "The Best of Me", "Kelibat", "Seventh", "Before I Go to Sleep", "Paradise in Service", "The Scribbler" and "The Shaukeens".
