7 Oct – Following a Chinese remake released earlier this year, 2014 South Korean comedy "Miss Granny" is getting another six remakes. Fans will soon get to see Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, Indian, Vietnamese and German versions of the movie, according to Variety. Production on the Japanese remake has started last month, with Mizuta Nobuo ("Tug of War", "The Apology King") directing and Tabe Mikako and Mitsuko Baisho co-starring. The Japanese version is eyeing for an early 2016 release. Currently, the Vietnamese version, retitled "Sweet 20" and directed by Phan Gia Nhat Linh, is slated for a December release. So far, no dates have been set for the remaining remakes.
"20, Once Again!", the Leste Chen-directed Chinese remake of the movie, was released in January this year. It topped China's weekend box office for 12 to 18 January and became the all-time biggest Korea-China joint production with its USD57.4 million gross. The original South Korean version, directed by Hwang Dong-Hyuk ("Silenced", "My Father") was released on 22 January 2014. Based on Box Office Mojo stats, the movie made USD58.2 million in its home country. "Miss Granny" tells of a 74-year-old widow, Oh Mal-soon (Na Moon-hee), who turned back into a 20-year-old woman after taking a self-portrait at a mysterious photo studio. She changes her name to Oh Doo-ri (Shim Eun-kyung) and decides to just see where life takes her in her youthful form.
