4 Apr – Eight months after "Pendatang" won best Independent Film at the 19th Neo Hong Kong Film Awards 2023, Kuman Pictures finally had the chance to hold their award in hand during their recent trip to Hong Kong. Director Ng Ken Kin recently met with film critic Andrew Chan to accept the said accolade, which was bestowed to him at the RCS Club and Dinner screening of the movie at the Harcourt Suite, The Hong Kong Club on 1 April. According to the official account of Neo Film Blog, the movie "took us on a journey into the dystopian world of extreme racism showing how fragile it can really be, whilst directly juxtaposing with the beautiful countryside of Malaysia."
Ng was also praised for his use of Bruce Lee's "be water" philosophy in his filmmaking, as it was "shone through every frame, sparking deep conversations and reflections." The movie, produced by Kuman Pictures and Tapir Films, revolves around the idea of the danger of racism set in a dystopian state where various ethnicities live separately. The film, which was crowdfunded, was released on YouTube in December 2023.
