Steve Jobs biopic will be out this year

Steve Jobs (L) will be portrayed by Michael Fassbender.

5 Feb – Universal Studios recently announced that its Steve Jobs biopic will be hitting the big screens come this October.

After many ups and downs, "Steve Jobs" finally has its cast lineup finalised and principal photography has started last month in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, according to Variety.

As previously reported, Michael Fassbender will star in the titular role; after other big names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale passed on the offer.

Seth Rogen co-stars as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Jeff Daniels acts as former Apple CEO John Sculley, and Michael Stuhlbarg plays the role of Andy Hertzfeld, one of the original members of the Apple Macintosh development team.

Also onboard the project are Kate Winslet and Katherine Waterston, with the former playing the part of ex-Macintosh marketing chief Joanna Hoffman while the latter takes on the role of Jobs' ex-girlfriend, Chrisann Brennan.

The movie, which is split into three long scenes, is penned by "The Social Network" writer Aaron Sorkin based on Walter Isaacson's biography "Steve Jobs". It is helmed by "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle.

Another Steve Jobs biographical drama, "Jobs", which was released on 16 August 2013 and starred Ashton Kutcher, did not perform well in cinemas. It only collected USD121.2 thousand in Malaysia and USD291.1 thousand in Singapore, contributing to its USD35.9 million worldwide gross.

Universal Pictures' upcoming Steve Jobs biopic will open in North American cinemas on 9 October 2015.
