28 Jul - The 2nd edition of the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) and Malaysia Golden Global Awards (MGGA) is set to get bigger next year as more new additions are in the pipeline. With Malaysian singer-actress ShinJe Lee appointed as the ambassador for the second year in a row, "The Eye" actress was present at the press conference held at Kuala Lumpur yesterday to show her support. "It is a great honour to be part of MIFFest and MGGA once again. As this not only a local event, but one that is on a global scale. It's exciting to be involved as the ambassador and I look forward to it next year," quipped SinJe, or Angelica Lee as the rest of the world knows her. Also unveiled at the event by the chairman of MIFFest and MGGA, Ms. Joanne Goh, is the Petronas Twin Towers emblazoned poster and theme of next year's edition that was created to represent the two faces of humanity, 'Hope' and 'Despair'. Said Ms. Joanne, "With these two very different themes, we hope to educate the public on how to handle moments of extreme loss and despair, and to find a glimmer of light through films." Come 1 August 2017 onwards, online application for film submissions will be open on www.mgga.com.my. Feature-length films that are "heartwarming, boundary breaking and that touches the soul" are highly encouraged to participate in the 'Malaysia Golden Global Awards Competition' category. Apart from welcoming films from all across the world including Malaysia, Joanne also revealed that their camp are set to bring over four establish women filmmakers for a special forum like event during the festival. Details of the event will be released at a later date. The 2nd MIFFest will return from 25 February 2018 and run until 2 March 2018, while the grand MGGA ceremony is set for 3 March 2018. The venues for both the events mentioned above will be confirmed at a later date.
