Sylvester Stallone no longer directing "Creed 2"

Sylvester Stallone reprising his role as Robert "Rocky" Balboa, Sr. in 2015's "Creed".

12 Dec – Just a couple of months after it was announced that Sylvester Stallone is entering the ring as a director for the upcoming "Creed 2", now comes news that he's thrown in the towel.

The director's spot is not left vacant, however, as Variety reports that Steven Caple Jr. ("The Land") is stepping in to helm the sequel.

It was stated that Caple Jr. was personally chosen by Stallone and co-star Michael B. Jordan, after Stallone decided that he was not doing the directing himself.

"Mike, Sly, and Tessa are extraordinarily talented and bring something special to today's culture. I look forward to joining the family and continuing the precedent set by this franchise's alumni of incredible filmmakers," said Caple Jr.

The abovementioned Tessa would be Tessa Thompson ("Thor: Ragnarok"), who will be returning as Creed's love interest, singer-songwriter Bianca.

Filming for the movie will begin in Philadelphia in March next year. The movie is currently dated for release in North America on 21 November 2018.

"Creed 2" will see Adonis Creed dealing with his newfound fame as he also deals with issues with his family and continues his quest to become a champion.
