29 Jun – Disney's live-action adaptation of "Mulan" was meant to be a March title but the pandemic has delayed its theatrical release not once, but twice, now this year. Over the weekend, news broke that the Crystal Liu-starrer has been given yet another new date and it will now open in North American cinemas on 21 August 2020. "While the pandemic has changed our release plans for 'Mulan' and we will continue to be flexible as conditions require, it has not changed our belief in the power of this film and its message of hope and perseverance," Disney's co-chairman and chief creative officer Alan Horn and co-chairman Alan Bergman said, as quoted by Variety. "Director Niki Caro and our cast and crew have created a beautiful, epic, and moving film that is everything the cinematic experience should be, and that's where we believe it belongs - on the world stage and the big screen for audiences around the globe to enjoy together." This marks the third delay for the blockbuster. It was originally slated for release in North America on 2 November 2018 before it was moved to 27 March 2020. It looked set to open on the March date when the global pandemic forced cinemas worldwide to momentarily shutdown, in turn forcing upcoming releases to be postponed, including "Mulan" which then had to be moved to 24 July 2020. July is now devoid of major Hollywood titles. "Mulan" was cinemas' last hope when last week, Warner Bros. moved Christopher Nolan's "Tenet" to August as well. It will open ahead of "Mulan" on 12 August.
