Censorship Board to evaluate "The Battle at Lake Changjin"

17 Nov – The Film Censorship Board (LPF) will be evaluating the content of the Chinese film "The Battle at Lake Changjin", the same title that sparked controversy after allegations that the movie is spreading Communist propaganda.

Yusniza Yusuf, the Secretary of the Film Censorship Division for the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) stated that they had just received an application from the film distributor on 10 November, and will not be able to state their position for the time being.


"The Home Ministry is waiting for the LPF decision," she said.

However Yusniza admitted that they are aware of the movie since October, after several cinema theatres had started promoting the movie on social media.

She added that LPF has already banned several films that are believed to be spreading Communist propaganda, including the locally made, "Lelaki Komunis Terakhir" and the Taiwanese film, "Boluomi".

It is noted that "The Battle at Lake Changjin", directed by Chen Kaige, Tsui Hark and Dante Lam, was allegedly commissioned by the Publicity Department of the Chinese Communist Party and announced as part of the 100th Anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party. The second part of the film has already been filmed though no release date has been announced.

The film also made USD 885.2 million at the box office, becoming the highest grossing film of 2021, ahead of Hollywood titles like "F9" and "No Time To Die".
