3 Oct – It looks like "Tarzan" remains a favourite IP, as it was revealed that Sony Pictures has now bought the screen rights to the Edgar Rice Burroughs' character. It was recently reported that the studio hopes to reinvent the character for the audiences of the 21st century, possibly to wash away the outdated white saviour tropes. However, there is still no filmmaker nor producer attached to the project for the time being. The last attempt to launch a potential franchise was made by Warner Bros. in 2016, with Alexander Skarsgard playing the titular ape man and Margot Robbie as his leading lady. The movie failed to get audiences' interest. Other "Tarzan" adaptations throughout the years include 1918's "Tarzan of the Apes", "Tarzan, the Ape Man" in 1981, and the Disney animated feature, "Tarzan" in 1999.
