6 Mar – Michelle Yeoh continues to sweep more awards in Hollywood in the lead to the upcoming Academy Awards. Her latest accolade came from the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards, in which she won Best Lead Performance for "Everything Everywhere All At Once". Dedicating the win to all mothers, she expressed, "Without our mothers, none of us would be here. And to all the ladies [who] are sitting at that table who support their husbands," she said, referring to her movie's cast and crew. "Thank you all for believing in us, and giving us a seat at the table and [thank you to] all the little girls, boys, who look like us and think that it is possible."
Michelle, who is nominated for the first time at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, bested other contenders that include Mia Goth ("Pearl"), Regina Hall ("Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul", Paul Mescal ("After Sun"), as well as her biggest contender, Cate Blanchett ("Tar"). It was just last week the actress won SAG Awards, after losing to Blanchett at the BAFTAs.
