19 Dec – It was a commendable success for the musical genre, as "Wonka" made USD 39 million at the US box office. The movie, which stars Timothée Chalamet in the titular role as the famed Willy Wonka, also brought in another USD 53.6 million internationally. Add in the early opening numbers in several markets, the movie has now made USD 151.4 million globally.
It is noted that the movie is most popular with audiences between the ages 18 and 34, with most of them female.
Directed by Paul King of "Paddington" fame, the movie has Chalamet playing as the young chocolatier who arrives in an European city to establish his chocolate shop. The movie also co-stars Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Sally Hawkins and Hugh Grant as Lofty the Oompa-Loompa.
