13 Jul – Filmmaker Paul King has his reason as to why he had chosen Hugh Grant to play the Oompa Loompa in his new movie, instead of going to the "less woke" route of hiring a little person. And that is because of Grant's attitude. Speaking to the media at the premiere of "Wonka", where Timothee Chalamet portrays the titular character, King stated that he had read the original Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" to understand the characters more. When it comes to the Oompa Loompas, the filmmaker stated that he found the characters were "incredibly sarcastic and judgmental and cruel" when it comes to their views of the kids. "So I was really just thinking about that character; somebody who could be a real s***, and then - ah! Hugh!" he said. "Because he's the funniest, most sarcastic s*** I've ever met." It is noted that this is not the first time that King has worked with Grant. He also cast the British actor, who was once a hearththrob, into the villain in "Paddington 2". "Wonka" is set for release in December.
