"Pendekar Awang" finally unveils its two co-directors

4 Jan - After much speculations, it was revealed that Saiful Reza Shukor and Shaharudin Md Dali were the two directors who were hired to replace "Pendekar Awang: Darah Indera Gajah" director, Areel Abu Bakar.

The news was announced during the premiere of the movie, with Abdul Rahman Md Dali, the producer of Studio Kembara saying that the selection of Saiful and Shaharudin were seen as an added value to the film, which also marks the company's second feature following "Mat Kilau".

"After seeing the early plot, we think that there are things that need to be improved upon. There are some parts that could hurt the final product. Thus, we decided to change the director. As a producer, I just think that the movie has to be improved. That is all," he said.

Saying that the change was not a big deal, Abdul Rahman said that it was only made into a brouhaha by the outside world.

As for Areel's claims that he had shot 90 percent of the movie, the producer said that they would use only 35 percent of the finished product.

"The visuals that Areel completed were around three to four hours long. We only use 30 to 35 percent of it after it was edited. Most of the film was made by Shaharudin and Saiful Reza," he added.

In previous reports, Areel, who helmed the movie before he was asked to step down by the company, stated that he was not informed as to why he was let go nor did Studio Kembara held a detailed discussion about the decision.
