27 Feb – Former actor Gene Hackman has been found dead alongside wife Betsy Arakawa at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The news was confirmed by the Santa Fe County Sheriff, saying that the actor and his wife were found dead after deputies were sent to do a welfare checkup on the noon of 26 February. "We do not believe foul play was a factor in their deaths however, exact cause of death has not been determined at this time," the rep stated. Aside from Hackman and his wife, their dog was also found dead at the scene.
Hackman had been acting for more than 40 years, starring in movies such as "The French Connection" (where he won an Oscar for leading role), "Superman" and "The Royal Tenenbaums". He won Best Supporting Actor in 1992 for "Western, Unforgiven". He retired back in 2004 after starring in "Welcome to Mooseport". The actor tied the knot with classical pianist Betsy Arakawa in 1991. Prior to that, he was married to Faye Maltese, of whom he has two daughters and a son. He was 95.
