Movie Details

Based on the true story of the Kautokeino riots in 1852 where group of Sami attacked representatives of the Norwegian authorities in response to the Norwegian exploitation of the Sami community at that time. A desolate village of Kautokeino inhabited by the Sami people and their reindeer is controlled by a wealthy merchant Carl Johan Ruth. A young woman named Elen, leader of one of the native tribes in the village refuses to pay their unfairly craved debt to Ruth which results in Ruth imprisoned most of Ellen`s tribe members. Ellen is left alone to tend the reindeer and is in plan to release her men from Ruth.
