30 is said to be a transitional age for women. Faced with work stress from an unexpected promotion, aging parents, a stagnant relationship and her impending birthday, 29-year-old Christy is gripped by insecurity about her present and future. Meanwhile, the carefree and optimistic Joyce makes a different choice at the age of 29, by packing her bags and pursuing her childhood dream. The two strangers who share the same birthdate form a connection when Christy moves into Joyce`s apartment and reads her diaries. Christy learns that though Joyce is not as accomplished, her life is fully lived.

Ia berkisarkan tentang dua wanita di mana mereka bakal menyambut ulang tahun ke-30. Berdepan dengan tekanan kerja, ibu bapa semakin uzur dan hubungan yang tidak stabil, Christy yang berusia 29 tahun berasa tidak selamat mengenai keadaan masa kini dan masa depannya. Joyce pula seorang bujang dan tidak pernah mencapai apa-apa. Namun dia bersikap optimis, di mana dia telah membuat keputusan berbeza pada usia 29 tahun iaitu mahu mengejar cita-cita zaman kecilnya. The Good, the Bad and the Almost 30-year-old Ladies:

• The movie is relatable and so close to life especially for those in their late 20s and those who needed help to tide over their quarter-life crisis.

• Usually for a movie that's based on a play, the story will still feel like a play and you would know that the movie is based on a play, but for "29+1", it doesn't feel like that, and that is an amazing feat to achieve.

• The movie is really sentimental and the gorgeous visuals suit the mood of the story.

• The movie appropriately showcases the acting skills of Chrissy Chau and Joyce Cheng. They're both very convincing and managed to bring emotional depth to their characters.

Trivia:

• The movie is based on a one-woman play of the same name in 2005.
