The Good, the Bad and the Former Boxer:

• Vince Vaughn is not exactly someone you would think of when it comes to a heavy-themed movie as he is more known for his comedies and is usually ranked alongside comedic actors like Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller, but his performance in "Brawl in Cell Block 99" is so intimidating and refreshing that it makes up for all the bad movies he has ever been in.

• "Brawl in Cell Block 99" is a Grade-A dark thriller not suitable for the faint of heart. The film works so well not because of the bloody violence or heavy drama, rather it is due to Vaughn's poignant performance that is so different from his usual roles, it could become the staple for his most known role.

• Story-wise, the movie is a typical prison drama but the screenplay is amazingly solid and deep. The plot is very well thought out, the dialogues are short but powerful and sometimes a bit comical too, and the analysations of the characters are so meticulous.

Trivia:

• During a Q&A at the Toronto Film Festival, the producers revealed that the destruction of the car was done by Vince Vaughn himself, and the car parts were real and were set up in a way that Vaughn wouldn't hurt himself badly.
