12 May– Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) customers will now be able to purchase their movie tickets via their iPhones with the introduction of a new application, 'GSC movie app', which provides its users an option of paying through Maybank2U (m2u) or PayPal. Currently available for 20 of GSC's cineplexes with more being added to the service soon; those who purchase their tickets through the 'GSC movie app', will also have the convenience of selecting their seats. "Working hand in hand with partners Maybank2U, PayPal and Sino Dynamics, the 'GSC movie app' marks GSC's foray into the smartphone app market" said GSC Senior Manager, Heng Beng Fatt during the launch which was held recently at GSC Signature, The Gardens. The app can be downloaded for Free from the Apple Store and moviegoers will have the choice of paying for their tickets through m2u mobile, or through a PayPal account on their iPhones. Just two months back, the 'Maxis Movie app' was launched for TGV and GSC cinemagoers, but the service was only limited to Maxis users where those with 'jailbreak' iPhones expressed difficulty in processing their ticket payment through PayPal. As for the 'GSC movie app', while the PayPal payment option restricts "jailbreak" iPhones from enabling transactions, the m2u payment option supports all iPhones. Booking fees per ticket for those using the m2u option is RM0.50 for normal screens and RM1 for Gold Class, while for PayPal customers it is confirmed to be RM1.00 for all tickets. However, in conjunction with the launch m2u is waiving the booking fees for the first 100,000 tickets from 11 May to 10 July 2011.
