13 Dec – Finally, the newly renovated TGV 1Utama opened its doors yesterday to make way for the premiere of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey". Drawing a crowd of moviegoers, the event was not without throngs of fans that came dressed up as their favourite Middle Earth characters from the movie brandishing their swords and staff while they roamed around the new cinematic premises which was aptly fitted for the night to exude a mythical theme. Transporting moviegoers into another world for the night, the dim setting and the sound system that played "The Hobbit" soundtrack in the cinema foyer had set the mood to myriad of activities such as the photo taking session with costumed fans, a lucky draw contest, rapid Q&A rounds and many activity booths that ranged from face painting to jewellery making- all Middle Earth themed of course.
Amongst those eager to catch the almost 3 hour long movie on a weekday night, was 10-year-old fan, Zoe Wee, who was been long anticipating to catch "The Hobbit" on the big screen.
TGV 1Utama currently has 8 digital halls including one IMAX Theatre and one Beanieplex hall. Another 4 halls are planned for February 2013, bringing the total number of all-digital halls to 12. "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is showing in cinemas and is available in 35mm, 2D, 3D, IMAX 3D and the HFR 3D format, for which the latter version is available only at TGV cinemas located at KLCC, Sunway Pyramid, Bukit Tinggi, Tebrau City, 1Utama, SetiaWalk, Wangsa Walk, Bukit Indah, Rawang, as well as GSC Pavilion KL and GSC Signature, The Gardens, which screens the movie at a higher frame rate of 48 frames per second, double the frame rate of a usual movie screened.
