Movies to catch at Latin American Film Festival 2017

The Latin American Film Festival (LAFF) returns for its 16th edition in Malaysia, this time also making its first comeback on the big screen since 2010. To be held at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) from this 1 to 8 November, there are a total of 12 movies from 11 Latin American countries, along with guest country South Africa, in this year's line-up. The movies come from various genres, which include award-winning titles such as the animated film "Anina" and the family drama "The Good People", as well as Venezuela's highest-grossing horror film "The House at the End of Time". The Good People (Spanish)
This movie was the only Latin American film featured in 2014 Cannes Film Festival. It follows 10-year-old Eric who is sent to live with his poor handyman father. The estranged father-son pair has a hard time connecting until one of his father's wealthier clients lets them stay at her luxurious villa during Christmas holiday, and Eric soon learns of the gaps between societal classes.


The House At The End Of Time (Spanish)
 A Venezuelan horror film that revolves around an old house occupied by Dulce and her family. One day when her sons, Leopoldo and Rodrigo, and husband Juan Jose are found killed, she is accused of murder and sent to prison. Discharged thirty years later, she returns to the house to try and find the truth.


Anina (Spanish)
This Uruguayan-Colombian animated drama-adventure was Uruguay's submission to the 86th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. It tells of 10-year-old Anina who, after a playground fight, is given the task of taking care of a mysterious black wax-sealed envelope. Anxious to know what's inside, her effort unwittingly turns into a journey of understanding her place in the world.
