Maya: I'm ready to be Mrs Shorthose!
29 Jul - Malaysia's darling vampire, Maya Karin of "Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam" franchise fame, is counting the days to the biggest event of her life - her wedding day! The winner of Best Actress award at the 49th Asia Pacific Film Festival (2004) has mixed feelings about her upcoming wedding, due 14 August in Bellagio, Italy.

Maya, who was caught by Cinema Online at the KRU 16th Anniversary party held recently in RUUMS, KL, stopped short of saying she has got the cold feet. She said: "It's not that I don't have faith in my marriage but all this high profile celebrity divorces in the news does come to mind. However, it's not going to affect my wedding preparations as everything will run according to plan."

During the short interview, the soon-to-be Mrs Steven Shorthose also mentioned that her upcoming film "Pisau Cukur" will see a delay. The filming, which is supposed to have begun already, has to be postponed due to co-actress Fazura's commitment with TV series "Ezora". Thus, the Red Films production ("Gol & Gincu", "Goodbye Boys" and "KAMI The Movie") will commence shooting some time after Aidilfitri this September. "Pisau Cukur" will be lined up by Maya herself, controversial starlet Fazura Sharifuddin, veteran Dato' Rahim Razali and Nabil among others.

Prompted on whether her marriage to Englishman Steven David Shorthose would jeopardise her career, Maya rubbishes it, saying that she would never think her marital status would affect her career as an actress, singer, model or a TV host. "The journey will go on whatever my marital status is - and that's for sure. In fact I'm currently compiling some material to start recording my third album soon," she said.
