Transformers crush competition

29 Jun – "Transformers" was the buzzword on everyone's lips last weekend and according to Box Office Mojo, the five-day international total for "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen" resulted in a whopping $387,346,000, breaking records in several countries, making it one of the best global launches ever. In the US, the film nearly matched the best five-day gross record held by "The Dark Knight."

Locally, the "Transformers" appeal jam-packed the cinemas as expected, with all if not most shows sold out at the popular locations. A majority of ticket purchasing lanes had to be dedicated to "Transformers 2" movie patrons only to support the long queue, leaving either one or two lanes for other movies. Even the normally quiet TGV Capsquare in Kuala Lumpur registered a full house for a Sunday, 3pm show. The sequel is on track to overtake its predecessor as Malaysia's all-time highest grossing film, according to local distributor United International Pictures.
