Transformers 2 breaks record

2 Jul – The highly anticipated movie blockbuster, "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen" has set a brand new record in Malaysian box office as the No.1 all-time industry five-day opening weekend and an all-time biggest weekday collection on Monday, 29 June, according to its local distributor United International Pictures. The movie has also managed to successfully outdo the entire lifetime box office takings of "Ironman" and "Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor in just five days.


"Revenge Of The Fallen" blows away its competitors
Debuting at the top spot in its first weekend outing at the local box office, the Michael Bay directed sequel, which opened on June 24, has topped within the first five days debuting, making it the all-time biggest weekend opening in Malaysia.

The movie on Saturday, 27 June, alone is the all-time highest single-day box office takings in history for any film released here and continues to dominate ticket sales in cinemas nationwide. It has surpassed some of the previous blockbusters, doubling over the success of "Spiderman 3" and almost triple "The Dark Knight" and "Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull".

Mr. Nicholas Yong, Managing Director of the film's local distributing arm, United International Pictures, said: "Based on the initial response from the first installment, we knew 'Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen' would be highly anticipated by hard core fans and movie-goers. But the first weekend results have superseded our expectations, and we're overwhelmed by the support the local audiences have given the film."

Based on Cinema Online's poll result for 'What is Transformers to you?', a majority of participants referred to it as 'An awesome movie' with a total of 327 votes, while Bumblebee has the highest votes for 'Which are your favourite Transformers characters?' with a whopping tally of 761 votes.
