27 Nov – Malaysia's biggest cinema chain Golden Screen Cinemas is set to fork out RM40 million to switch 143 of their screens which are currently using the 35mm projection system to go fully digital by 2014. Out of their 220 cinemas screens across the country, 77 of them are already utilising the digital projection system. GSC would also be spending an additional RM140 million for six new fully digital locations targeted to open by 2014. The said six locations are; yet to be confirmed venues in Kuching, Miri and Seremban with 10 halls each, Nu Sentral, Kuala Lumpur with 11 halls, while the ones in IOI City Mall, Putrajaya and Aman Central Shopping Mall, Alor Setar would have 13 and 10 screens respectively. Aside from new cineplexes, three of GSC's current cinemas would also be undergoing a RM5 million renovation next year that will include seating, entrance foyer and overall facade upgrades. They are; GSC Gurney Plaza, GSC Berjaya Times Square and GSC Mid Valley Megamall.
