Kit Harington may lead "Pompeii"

Kit Harington may lead Paul W.S. Anderson's film "Pompeii".

16 Nov – After his film feature debut in "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D", Kit Harington has a list of high profile feature films lined up for him, among which may be Paul W.S. Anderson's period film, "Pompeii".

According to Collider, Harington is in talks to star in director Paul W.S. Anderson's period pic "Pompeii", which tells the story of the volcanic disaster that befell the city of Pompeii, leading to its destruction.

The catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius in the year AD 70 is itself the backdrop for the story of a shipping tycoon's slave named Milo, who dreams of being free one day and marry his master's daughter, only to find out that she has been promised to a corrupt Roman senator and he's been sold to an owner in Naples. As Mt. Vesuvius erupts, Milo heads back to Pompeii in order to rescue his love and his best friend, a gladiator trapped in the coliseum.

Anderson, who is best remembered for the "Resident Evil" film franchise and "The Three Musketeers", revealed that the period epic will be rated PG-13, and bears similarities to James Cameron's "Titanic", where audiences will be so swept up in the story that they briefly forget about the impending doom.

The director also revealed that he would like to explore the political machinations of a corrupt city in addition to the film's love story.

It is yet unknown when production on "Pompeii" will begin, but "Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes was recently reported to have performed a script rewrite for the film.

Aside from "Pompeii", Harington has already been roped in to star in Sergei Bodrov's adaptation of Joseph Delaney's children's novel "The Spook's Apprentice" titled "The Seventh Son" alongside Ben Barnes and Jeff Bridges, as well as "Greenland Time". He will also continue to reprise his role as Jon Snow in the third season of the wildly popular HBO series, "Game of Thrones".
