MIG on YouTube in 2013

David Teo, CEO of MIG, has signed with Google to bring Malay films onto the international stage.

3 Dec– Metrowealth International Group (MIG) Productions has officially signed a deal with Google Inc. to bring two Malay film channels on YouTube on January 2013.

According to David Teo, Chief Executive Officer of MIG, the local production house has long been in talks to utilise the most popular video-sharing site as a powerful platform to promote Malay movies internationally which will in turn stop illegal downloads.

"We have signed a deal with Google in the United States to create channels for Malay films on YouTube. We want to let the global audience to see whatever content that is related to our local Malay productions, including films, dramas and any other entertainment occasions," said Teo to Berita Harian.

He added, "We will provide two channels, which are Metrowealthpictures and MIG Online. We already have MIG Online on our official website for a long time, but this time we will implement a re-branding process for it, so that it will become one of the main Malay film sources on YouTube."

Speaking of piracy, MIG is stepping up to give a hand to local producers to fight illegal downloads from internet users.

"MIG will also create a system for local producers who have not registered for their films on YouTube, to work with us. With a system like this, we will be able to help them to halt those irresponsible viewers from freely reaping the filmmakers' hardwork," Teo claimed.

Besides signing with Google, MIG is also looking towards another similar deal with the iTunes platform which is owned by Apple Inc.

"We are going to work with iTunes and ask them to become the agent and reference for all the Malaysian productions. We will be the only distributor for Malay movies on iTunes. The cost to download the films will be determined by the currency between the countries and we will sell the films in US dollars," Teo revealed.
