19 Nov – David Teo, Chief Executive Officer of Metrowealth International Group (MIG) is one of the hardest working individuals in the media industry yet, as he recently revealed that he is currently in talks with social media platforms YouTube and Facebook, as well as iTunes for deals that will allow his movies to be available on those platforms. This is because Major David Teo believes that in order to maximise revenue, he should not limit his business to cinemas only. He was the first producer to sign an agreement with Astro, which dictates that his films will be released on Astro First after 14 days of its theatrical release. "Firstly our collection would come from the cinema and then secondly would be from Astro First. Third would be from TV stations who want to show re-runs of the movie. Currently I'm also in talks with YouTube, iTunes and Facebook which will allow my movies to be available on that platforms from anywhere in the world," said Teo. Not only that, Teo's company, MIG, practices self-censorship when making a movie, which makes it easy for their films to be approved by the censorship board unlike the recently released historical-biographical film, "Tanda Putera", by notable director Datin Paduka Shuhaimi Baba. As a result, Teo is able to produce 21 films within a year.
In addition, the MIG romance drama film "Aku Terima Nikahnya", which stars Adi Putra and Nora Danish, has made over RM 300,000 in collections over in Singapore despite screening in only one cinema there. The sole collection is higher compared to its current performance here in Malaysia when matched with local individual cinemas.
