14 Feb – Sarawak welcomed its first GSC cinema in Miri's Bintang Megamall on 7 February with a bang! To celebrate the milestone, special movie character and clown appearances, balloon giveaways, movie themed block puzzle games and electronic games were available during the opening weekend to entertain customers. Moviegoers can also look forward to a complimentary "Wizard Of Oz" multi-purpose pouch with each purchase of GSC Combo 3, while stocks last. GSC patrons will also be further rewarded with 1,000 "Buy 2 Free 1" vouchers with every two tickets purchased at the GSC Bintang Megamall ticketing counter. The cinema opens under the "GSC Lite" branding, a lighter, modest and more accessible entertainment format that does not sacrifice the effects of big screen and digital sound offered by GSC cinemas nationwide.
Built at a cost of RM17.5 million, GSC Bintang Megamall Miri is equipped with three Digital 3D halls and has a total seating capacity of 1,010 seats to cater to the Miri community. The cinema also provides online ticketing facility (GSC e-payment) for both internet and mobile purchases (Mobile app iPhone and Android), including as well the SelfPrint service and auto-gate. "The 8-screen GSC Bintang Megamall, Miri is the first GSC cinema to open with all- digital halls in the GSC chain, the first all-digital hall cinema in East Malaysia and will also offer the first digital 3D hall in Miri", said Ms Koh Mei Lee, GSC Chief Executive Officer. GSC also plans to open its second cinema in Sarawak - a 10-screen GSC City One Mall, Kuching before the end of first quarter 2013.
