29 Apr – Johnny Depp is in talks to sign on as the lead for Disney's "In The Woods", a musical adaptation from Broadway musical legend Stephen Sondheim. That's right, he will be singing! This will not be Depp's first attempt in singing for a film-adaptation of a Sondheim musical, as he starred in Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" back in 2007.
Depp will play a childless baker, who attempts to lift a family curse by journeying into the woods with his wife to confront the witch that put the spell on them. Along the way, they encounter Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack from "Jack And The Beanstalk", Little Red Riding Hood and other classic characters. Meryl Streep is targeted for the role of the witch. James Lapine, who wrote the book for the musical, is on board to craft the script, while Rob Marshall is up to direct and has been trying to develop the film. There's no set date for shooting yet as Johnny Depp still has to finish his work for "Transcendence" and Barry Levinson's Boston crime tale "Black Mass".
