FINAS plans to open a film school

The National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) is planning to open a film school.

18 Jan – Although the local film industry is seen to show improvements with the latest film "Mat Moto" directed by Pekin Ibrahim and Syafiq Yusof collecting RM 1 million on its release date, it doesn't mean the industry is recovering.

The National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) is planning to open a film school as a platform to further enhance the quality of local films.

"We plan to build a film school for those who are interested in this industry, especially who failed in the SPM in favour of the vocational concept," FINAS chairman, Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib tells mStar.

Khusairi added that the film school will only focus on the certification and skill levels.

According to Khusairi, the proposal was agreed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the school is expected to be built in Slim River, Perak.

Meanwhile, to promote local films, FINAS is taking the initiative to air the trailers of local films in government offices like the JPJ and government hospitals.
