Stan Lee creates new superhero character for Asia

Stan Lee creates Monkey Master for a China-India co-production.

24 Sep – Here comes another superhero from comic book master, Stan Lee! The new character will be the titular star of the upcoming live-action movie, co-produced by China and India, called "Monkey Master".

As apparent from the title, the superhero comes in the form of a monkey, its creation said to be influenced by the Chinese and Indian myths of monkey warriors.

"I have always been fascinated by the Chinese and Indian cultures which are so philosophical and rich in tradition and morality," said Lee, as quoted by Variety.

Lee is co-creating the new superhero monkey with co-founder and CEO of Graphic India, Sharad Devarajan, whom he previously worked with to create Indian superhero Chakra the Invincible.

"The story will take place between ancient and modern day China and India as the myth of monkey warriors, known to both cultures, come together in the creation of a modern day superhero," Devarajan revealed.

Lee's own media company POW! Entertainment has partnered up with Graphic India and China's Shinework Pictures, as well as India's Cinema Capital Advisory, to produce the movie.

Though further details for the movie are still kept under wrap, it is known that it will be an English-language movie with possibly a Western director set to helm.

Filming for "Monkey Master" is expected to begin in 2017.
