27 Feb – British-Chinese actress Gemma Chan is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the genius bio-geneticist, Minn-Erva. "Captain Marvel" has added Chan to play the villain who will go up against Brie Larson's titular superhero character, according to Deadline. In the comics, Minn-Erva, otherwise known as Doctor Minerva, is a Kree bio-geneticist and spy to the home world of Kree-Lar. The plot of the movie has yet to be revealed but it is set to follow Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who made her debut in the comics in 1968 as a human companion to the original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell. Danvers' DNA was fused with an alien's during an accident, resulting in her obtaining superpowers such as super strength, flight and energy projection. Minn-Erva also possesses similar powers.
Gemma is best known for her starring role as Mia in the sci-fi drama series, "Humans". She is no stranger to movies, however, having appeared in blockbusters such as "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and "Transformers: The Last Knight". She will be seen next in Warner Bros' adaption of Kevin Kwan's bestselling novel, "Crazy Rich Asians", as well as historical drama film "Mary Queen of Scots", both releasing this year.
