No more DC Superman movies after Henry Cavill's departure?

Henry Cavill has been starring as DCEU's Superman since 2013.

13 Sep – Depends on who you ask, Henry Cavill has had quite a good run as Superman for the past five years.

However, the time has come for the 35-year-old English actor to hang the red cape, as The Hollywood Reporter brought news that Cavill will no longer be portraying the superhero in any upcoming DCEU movie.

Reportedly, the actor was in discussion for a cameo role in the upcoming "Shazam!" but the deal fell apart due to scheduling conflicts.

This leads to Cavill being cut from his Superman role.

It was also reported that Warner Bros. will not be making any more solo Superman movies for the next few years following the actor's departure.

The studio will be shifting its focus to Supergirl instead, starting with an origin movie about the teenage superheroine.

Still, the studio has been coy about admitting whether Cavill is really out from its superhero movie universe, saying only: "While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we've always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged."

The actor doesn't help matter much when it comes to clarifying the matter as all he posted in response was this:

Cavill first donned the iconic blue and red costume in 2013's "Man of Steel", and later in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and last year's "Justice League".

While both he and Ben Affleck, who portrayed DCEU's Batman since 2016, might no longer be seen in any more DCEU movies, their fellow "Justice League" cast Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller are still attached to their own solo movies.

Gadot will be back for "Wonder Woman 1984", Momoa is headlining this year's "Aquaman" and Miller's Flash movie is scheduled to begin filming early next year.

This probably won't be much of a kryptonite to Cavill's acting career, as the actor, who can currently be seen in "Mission: Impossible Fallout", has recently signed on to star in Netflix's "The Witcher".
