Jared Leto gets his own Joker spinoff movie

Jared Leto as Joker in "Suicide Squad".

6 Jun – After making his Joker debut in 2016's "Suicide Squad", Jared Leto is back to reprise the supervillain role for his own spinoff movie.

Yes, there is another Joker standalone movie in the making but it will be completely different from the origin movie starring Joaquin Phoenix announced previously, according to Variety.

Both the Leto-starrer and Phoenix-starrer will be set in the cinematic DC extended universe, it's just that the latter falls under DCEU's new origins banner which allows different actors to play the same roles without any overlap.

Leto will also be producing his own Joker spinoff.

It is not known whether the new project will begin filming before or after "Suicide Squad 2", which is expected to film in 2019, as Leto and Warner Bros. are currently looking for a writer.

So far, Harley Quinn and Joker are the only two characters from the "Suicide Squad" movie to get spinoffs. Last year, it was reported that Margot Robbie and Leto will both play the unhinged couple again in a movie based on them.

Robbie is also reprising her Harley Quinn role for the psychotic supervillain's spinoff movie that will be based on the "Birds of Prey" comic.

Both characters are expected to appear again in "Suicide Squad 2", slated for release in 2020.
