31 May – It looks like there is a possibility for Joaquin Phoenix to be donning his Joker make-up again, after it was reported that Warner Bros. is planning for movie number 2. Sources recently alleged that the studio has recently signed Todd Phillips - the director and co-writer of "Joker" - to pen the second movie of the 2019 hit film. It is noted that Phillips had previously express interest in making a sequel to the said movie, but later admitted that there were no plans for it. "Well there was [that push] even before Joker came out. A movie does that kind of business and became that beloved around the world – they had talked to us about it," Phillips said. "Joaquin [Phoenix] and I had spoken about it anyway as far back as when we were shooting the movie. But in all honesty we haven't gone any further on it. Even Warner Bros. hasn't."
He then stated that the studio could be giving them time - for the writers to think of a story and for Phoenix to make time in his schedule for a second movie. The actor himself has also expressed interest to do a sequel as long as it does not stray much from the theme of the original. "I talked to Todd a lot about what else we might be able to do, in general, just to work together, but also specifically, if there's something else we can do with Joker that might be interesting," he was quoted saying. The 2019 "Joker" was a surprise hit, becoming the first R-rated movie to gross over USD 1 billion worldwide and enabled Phoenix to win Best Actor and the movie winning Best Original Score at the Academy Awards, as well as nine other nominations at the said event. Warner Bros. Has made no confirmation to the rumour.
