Will Smith returns for "Bright" sequel

The "Bright" sequel will see the return of Will Smith and Joel Edgerton in their respective roles.

4 Jan – Less than two weeks after its release, fantasy action crime film "Bright" already has a sequel confirmed for it.

The movie's official Twitter account recently announced it by posting an "Orc casting video" along with the caption "Leaked footage of Orc casting confirms the rumors: there will be a sequel to #BrightMovie."

Despite critics giving it not quite glowing reviews, it still went on to become the top movie on Netflix in more than 190 countries ever since its 22 December release.

Will Smith, who stars as Los Angeles police officer Daryl Ward, will be reprising his role in the sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter also brought word that Joel Edgerton, who co-stars as an Orc rookie officer Nick Jakoby, and director David Ayer will be returning.

Ayer will be penning the script as writer Max Landis will not be back for the follow-up project.

The "Bright" sequel will mark the third time for Ayer and Smith to re-team, after 2016's "Suicide Squad" and last year's "Bright".

Made on a reported budget of USD90 million, Netflix's "Bright", set in a fictional Los Angeles where humans live alongside mythical creatures, follows Ward who reluctantly partners up with Jakoby in order to protect a magical wand that is being sought after by people from both sides of the law as well as supernatural characters.
