15 May – "Percy Jackson" fans would be happy to know there is a new series in the works over at Disney's streaming platform Disney+ based on the fantasy adventure novels. The good news was revealed by author Rick Riordan himself on his social media. He posted, "Hey Percy Jackson fans, for the past decade, you've worked hard to champion a faithful on-screen adaptation of Percy Jackson's world. Some of you have even suggested it would be a great series for Disney+. We couldn't agree more!" He added that even though he and his wife Becky can't say more at this stage, they are very excited about "the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original Percy Jackson five-book series". The author also assured fans that both of them will be "involved in person in every aspect of the show". According to Riordan, the first season will be based on the first book, "The Lightning Thief", from his "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series. Though there is so far no date set for its release on Disney+. The aforementioned book, along with the second book "Sea of Monsters", were previously adapted for the big screen. However, fans were less than happy with the adaptations as there were notable changes from the books. It's no surprise then that just last January, Logan Lerman, who starred in both 2010 and 2013 movies as the titular demigod, revealed that there were no plans for a third "Percy Jackson" movie. So, fans who have been hoping to see him reunite with co-stars Alexandra Daddario and Jake Abel will have to console themselves by watching the upcoming Disney+ series instead.
