Alec Baldwin: New measures needed to protect lives on film sets

1 Nov – Alec Baldwin has finally spoken up regarding the tragedy that occurred on the set of his Western movie, "Rust", making it his first time talking on camera about it.

The actor, who decided to speak to the photographers who refused to leave him while he was in Manchester, Vermont with his family, stated that the late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins - who was the victim of the accidental shooting, was a good friend.

"A woman died. She was my friend. She was my friend. The day I arrived in Santa Fe to start shooting, I took her to dinner with Joel, the director. We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together and then this horrible event happened," he said.

Baldwin also stated that he has been talking to the police every day, and is eagerly awaiting the Santa Fe Sherriff's Office to release their findings.

The actor and wife Hilaria were also frustrated when one of the photographers could not remember Halyna Hutchins' name, with Hilaria saying, "If you're spending this much time waiting for us, you should know her name."

Baldwin then revealed that he has met with Hutchins' husband and nine-year-old son.

"The guy is overwhelmed with grief. This is, you know, there are accidental accidents on film sets from time to time, but nothing like this. This is one in a trillion episode," he said.

However, when asked if he would ever work in a film set that involves firearms in the future, the actor said, "I couldn't answer that question... I do know that an ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on film sets, is something that I'm really interested in."

"Some new measures has to take place," he added, saying that he is no expert in the subject.
