14 Jul – It's been 19 years since Sanjay Leela Bhansali's adaptation of "Devdas" first became a hit, and its stars recently took to social media to celebrate its existence. On 12 July, lead actor Shah Rukh Khan took to social media to express his thoughts about the movie, writing, "All the late nights....the early mornings.... hard pace & problems. Worked out fine because of the gorgeous [Madhuri Dixit]. The stunning [Aishwarya Rai], ever cheerful [Jackie Shroff], full of life [Kirron Kher] and the whole team slogging it under the masterful and patient [Sanjay Leela Bhansali]." "Only issue....the dhoti kept falling off....!!" he joked, adding, "Thx for the love everyone."
As for Jackie Shroff, who made a special appearance as Chunnilai, the actor shared a black and white photo of him with Shah Rukh, and wrote, "Can't believe it has been 19 years since Devdas. Thanks all the [friends] who were part of the saga."
On the other hand, Madhuri Dixit expressed, "Reminiscing some great and happy memories from the sets of Devdas. Even 19 years later it all feels so fresh! Thank you Sanjay for sharing these. Will Cherish these forever!" She also did not forget to dedicate the post to the late Dilip Kumar, who starred in the 1955 film, writing, "Here's our ode to Dilip Kumar, just like Devdas, you will continue to live on... forever!"
Based on the story by Bengali novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay that was written in 1917, "Devdas" tells the story of Devdas Mukherjee, whose life goes into a downward spiral after his family forbids him of marrying his childhood love, Paro.
