1 Apr – The Warner Bros' monster flick "Godzilla vs. Kong" recently became the number one movie in Malaysia. The film, which is the latest instalment in the Monster Universe franchise, made USD 2.1 million in the country, which is equivalent to approximately MYR 8.6 million - making it the biggest opening number for a COVID-era movie and the biggest opening weekend ever for a Warner Bros. MonsterVerse film.
It is noted that the movie was one of the first few films offered in cinemas when it reopened last month. The film was launched internationally on 26 March but audiences in Malaysia and Singapore were able to watch these two giants pit against each other in an epic battle when the movie was released in both countries a day earlier - on 25 March. Other Warner Bros. movies that were released during the pandemic include "Tenet", "Wonder Woman 1984", and "Tom & Jerry: The Movie". On the other hand, the latest movie adaptation of "Mortal Kombat" will be making its debut this month.
Directed by Adam Wingard, "Godzilla vs. Kong" stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown and Rebecca Hall. The synopsis read, "Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, and with them is Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond. But they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe. The initial confrontation between the two Titans - instigated by unseen forces - is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth."
