What if Wolverine was played by Viggo Mortensen instead of Hugh Jackman?

9 Feb – Viggo Mortensen could have played Wolverine back when 20th Century Fox started the "X-Men" movie franchise, if not for his son saying no to the project.

The "Lord of the Rings" star spoke about the casting in a podcast interview to promote his directorial debut, "Falling" recently, saying that he ran the proposal by his son Henry, who was a comic book fan, and did not receive a good response.

Could Viggo Mortensen have made it work as Wolverine?

"I did take Henry to the meeting I had with the director as my sort of good luck charm and guide. In the back of my mind I was thinking he could learn something too, because I did let Henry read the script and he goes 'This is wrong, that's not how it is'," he said.

Henry was not wrong in this case, as the original "X-Men" film series released in the early 2000s was not entirely faithful to Marvel Comics.

He continued, "[Director Bryan Singer] goes 'Yeah, but he doesn't look like this.' And all of a sudden the director is falling all over himself and then the rest of the meeting was him explaining in detail to Henry why he was taking certain liberties."

At the same time, Mortensen stated that he was not keen on committing to the project and playing the same character over and over.

"We walked out of there, and Henry asks if he (Bryan Singer) will change the things he (Henry) told him about, and I say I don't think so. I'm not going to do it anyway, because I'm not sure I want to be doing this for years, and then a couple of years later I'm doing three Lord Of The Rings so who knows," he lightheartedly added.

But everything worked out for the best. Nobody would be mad that they got Mortensen as Aragorn and Australian hunk Hugh Jackman playing the brooding Wolverine anyway.

We wouldn't get this Aragorn if Mortensen said yes to "X-Men" instead

We also wouldn't have this Wolverine and that's just wrong!
