21 Jun – Iman Vellani recently admitted that she never thought she was going to be one of the three main characters in the upcoming Marvel superhero movie, "The Marvels". The actress, who stars as Kamala Khan, the first Muslim female superhero in an original Disney+ series, "Ms Marvel", said that she thought she would only be appearing in cameo in the Brie Larson-starrer. "It was a night shoot when they were announcing everything at Disney Investor Day. Right before they announced The Marvels cast, I get a text from Disney PR, I get a text from Brie Larson and I get a text from our producers all at the same time saying I'm in the movie and then they announced it on the screen," said Vellani. "I was like, 'Thank you.' I had a hunch I was going to be in it, but more of a cameo role, not an actual main character, so it was cool."
Aside from Kamala Khan, Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau is also considered one of the important characters in the upcoming film. It is noted that all three of the main characters in "The Marvels" have already been introduced to audiences. Brie Larson's Carol Danvers had her origin movie in the first "Captain Marvel" film, while Parris' Monica Rambeau got her powers during the events in Disney+ series, "WandaVision". Meanwhile, Kamala Khan's journey as Ms Marvel is now streaming on Disney+ every Wednesday. "The Marvels" is set to be released in July 2023.
