1 Apr – Did you know that "Transformers" executive producer Steven Spielberg had originally wanted only three "Transformers" movies? That was what director Michael Bay shared in an interview with Unilad UK recently while promoting his new movie, "Ambulance", acknowledging that he made too many movies from that franchise. "Steven Spielberg said, 'Just stop at three'. And I said I'd stop. The studio begged me to do a fourth, and then that made a billion too. And then I said I'm gonna stop here. And they begged me again," he said. Bay continued, "I should have stopped. [But] they were fun to do."
The first "Transformers" live-action film, which was released in 2007, received praises from critics and audiences alike, making USD 709.7 million at the box office worldwide. He went on to make "Revenge of the Fallen" (2009) and "Dark of the Moon" (2011), which had mixed receptions. Bay then decided to continue the franchise with "Age of Extinction" (2014), and "The Last Knight" (2017), which received mostly negative reviews. The total combined from all the movies were around USD 4 billion. Although Bay no longer directs the subsequent movies, he still produces Travis Knight's "Bumblebee" (2018), and the upcoming Steven Caple Jr.'s "Rise of the Beasts", to be released in 2023.
