8 Mar – 15 years after the first film, it was reported that Warner Bros. is green-lighting the sequel to its hit 2007 post-apocalyptic Will Smith thriller, "I Am Legend". The upcoming movie will not only bring back Will Smith, who played US Army virologist Robert Neville in the original, but also adds "Black Panther" star Michael B. Jordan into the mix. The two actors reportedly will also produce the said film.
On 5 March, Smith posted a screenshot of the deserted New York city scene from the first film on Instagram and wrote, "This gonna be fire", tagging Jordan in the said photo. Aside from Smith, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman will also return to write the second movie. He had previously adapted author Richard Matheson's 1954 novel of the same name for the 2007 movie. Details are still kept under wraps for the time being, and no director has been attached just yet. The first film, which is loosely based on Matheson's aforementioned novel, revolves around Neville, who becomes the last human in New York after a virus wiped out most of mankind and turned others into hostile mutants.
