20 Jul – Pixar is breathing a sigh of relief that its latest entry, "Elemental" is not going to suffer the same fate as "Lightyear". The movie, which had not been doing well at the box office since its release last month has raked in another USD 8.7 million in its fifth week in the US, and USD 28.2 million more internationally. This means that the movie has now grossed USD 311.7 million, surpassing the lacklustre result of "Lightyear" (USD 226.4 million) at the box office.
Still, the film was unable to reach the heights that Pixar movies were known for, with movies like "Toy Story 3", "Finding Dory" and "The Incredibles 2" reaching billions of dollars at the box office during its heyday. The animated feature previously had the second worse three-day opening number with only USD 29.5 million, though the worst opening number was the original 1995 "Toy Story", which was the studio's first ever big screen flick.
