10 May - Warner Bros. is set to return to Middle-earth with a new series of "Lord of the Rings" movies.

The news was confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who said that the company is now in the early stages of script development that they plan to release in 2026.

He added that the new series of movies will "explore storylines yet to be told".

The first film has a working title of "Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum", and will have Andy Serkis starring and directing.

"Yesssss, Precious. The time has come once more to venture into the unknown with my dear friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle-earth Peter, Fran and Philippa," said Serkis in a statement. "With Mike and Pam, and the Warner Bros team on the quest as well, alongside WETA and our film making family in New Zealand, it's just all too delicious..."

Meanwhile, Peter Jackson, who helmed the last LOTR movies as well as its spinoff, "The Hobbit", will be involved "every step of the way" alongside his writing partners, Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.

"It is an honour and a privilege to travel back to Middle-earth with our good friend and collaborator, Andy Serkis, who has unfinished business with that stinker - Gollum!" Jackson, Boyens and Walsh said in a statement. "As lifelong fans of Professor Tolkien's vast mythology, we are proud to be working with [WBD film chiefs] Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy and the entire team at Warner Bros. on another epic adventure!"
