15 Jan - Not wanting to be bogged down by the laws and lore of Star Wars, filmmaker James Mangold revealed that his upcoming Star Wars film will be set 25,000 years before any of the existing films or series.

The director, known for movies like "Logan" and "Ford V. Ferrari", told MovieWeb that he decided to distance his work from the established canon to avoid toxic fandom.

"The Star Wars movie would be taking place 25,000 years before any known Star Wars movies takes place. It's an area and a playground that I've always [wanted to explore] and that I was inspired by as a teenager," he stated.

Mangold added, "I'm not that interested in being handcuffed by so much lore at this point that it's almost immovable, and you can't please anybody."

The project, titled "Dawn of the Jedi", is co-written by Mangold and "Andor" scribe, Beau Willimon.

No news as to when the film will be released. The next Star Wars film to be coming to theatres would be Jon Favreau's "The Mandalorian & Grogu", which will be released on 22 May 2026.

Mangold's most recent project to be released was the Bob Dylan biopic, "A Complete Unknown".
